Program Description: Students learn to create effective and visually pleasing residential, commercial, industrial and public space designs and layouts. Graduates of the AAS degree will have developed a portfolio to showcase their designs and will be prepared to enter a career as an interior designer, planner, project manager or design consultant.
Upon successful completion of this program, you will be able to:
- Develop an interior design project.
- Integrate trends into interior design.
- Produce interior design sketches.
- Draw objects and spaces to scale.
- Produce drawings using a computer-assisted drafting system.
- Understand color theory and use color to influence mood.
- Suggest finishes and materials for a project.
- Specify the accessories, furniture and equipment for a project.
- Use interior architectural and construction elements.
- Create an interior design concept for a residence.
- Create lighting concepts.
- Produce working drawings and specifications.
- Plan a layout for an industrial commercial or public building.
- Create an interior design concept for a commercial, industrial or public building.
- Promote your interior design services effectively.
Career Opportunities: Program graduates will be prepared to work in residential and commercial design and architecture firms. They may choose to specialize in kitchen and bath, residential, hospitality, health and medical, corporate space or retail design. Another option is to work as a product representative for a wide range of companies that manufacture and market products.
Transfer/Articulation Information: This AAS degree is currently not transferable to four year institution; however, the General Education components are transferable.
Estimated Cost for Students: Approximately $6000 in tuition and $500 in books and supplies.
Estimated Time to Completion: If students follow the suggested semester schedule, time to completion is five semesters.
