All Surveying & Geomatics faculty are experienced, degreed, and state-licensed Professional Land Surveyors (PLS).

Program Description: The surveying and geomatics program serves three distinct purposes:

  1. Provides students who have little or no experience in the field the skills needed for employment as a surveyor;
  2. Gives those already working in the profession additional knowledge needed to prepare for their professional licensing examinations;
  3. Gives licensed professionals opportunities for upgrade training on new issues and equipment in surveying.

A “C” grade or better is required in all Surveying & Geomatics program courses.

Career Technician Certification: SLCC is an approved National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) Certified Surveying Technician (CST) Proctor Site.

Transfer/Articulation Information: Students have the option to continue at Utah Valley University in the Geomatics bachelor degree program.

Estimated Time to Completion: If a student follows the proposed sample schedule outline, time to completion is four semesters.

Advising Notes:


Students who need to take preparatory classes to meet the requirements of first semester courses (see summer term in sample schedule) should plan on extra time to complete the program. It is the student’s responsibility to examine each course description for details of prerequisite classes. Those prerequisites must be satisfied before the designated class may be taken and may require extra time to complete the program.

Onsite and hybrid SVT courses are taught in the evening and on Friday and Saturday to accommodate students already working in the profession. Courses available in a totally online format are: SVT 1010 , SVT 1110 , SVT 2050 , and SVT 2060 . SVT 2160  & SVT 2170  are hybrid courses with special hours during Fall and Spring semesters, contact Program Coordinator at (801) 957- 4176 for detailed information.

Credit may be granted for equivalent experience or courses; challenge tests available up to 16 credit hours.
