  • MUSC 2520 - Music Scoring For Film

    Credits: 3
    Instruction and practice in composing music for use as underscore in film. Students will examine the scores of historical and present-day films to learn different approaches to film scoring and the different roles music can play in film, will learn about the process of creating music for film from the spotting session through the final audio mix and will compose and record their own underscores.

    This course introduces students to the field of sound design for games and interactive media. Students will develop skills in creation of game audio assets and in the use of middle-ware programs used in the video game industry for the implementation of assets within the game environment.

  • MUSC 2580 - Audio Production and Mixing for Live Performance

    Credits: 3


    Entry-level positions in audio are often in the live sound field. This course provides training specific to live sound and performance audio. Subjects include sound system design and implementation, mixing live sound, sound system maintenance, digital audio consoles, distribution over audio networks (Dante or AVB), pre-recorded audio for live playback using Q-lab, or SCS.

    Prerequisite: MUSC 1515  or instructor approval.

    Students must achieve a grade of C+ or better in the pre-requisite course or instructor approval before being admitted into MUSC 2580.

Nahuatl

  
  • NHTL 1010 - First Semester Nahuatl

    Credits: 5
    Nahuatl is the native language with the largest number of speakers in Mexico, and is rich in ancestral knowledge, customs, and traditions. This is the first in a series of courses on Modern Huastecan Nahuatl, and focuses on listening, speaking, reading, writing, and culture. Major objective of the first year is to develop functional language ability and cultural competence. 

    Prerequisite: None, for students with no previous experience in the language.
    Recommended Prerequisite: None. Proficiency in Spanish is helpful but not necessary.

    Registration Restrictions:
    1) This course is offered at SLCC by means of distance ed., from the U. of U. Students will be required to follow the U. of U. academic calendar, which may differ from SLCC’s. 2) Students with pre-existing knowledge of the language will be required to have an interview with the course instructor.
