Program Description: The one year Certificate of Cin Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair program is designed to train students in both domestic and imported vehicle mechanics and repairs. It prepares students to enter into the job market as technicians skilled in maintenance and light repair facets of automotive repair.

Prospective auto technicians should be in good physical condition, have above average mechanical aptitude and hand-eye coordination and have problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Career Opportunities: Upon completion of this program, graduates may find employment opportunities as automotive maintenance technicians, steering and suspension and brake technicians, engine repair technicians, and automotive electrical technicians. Most technicians furnish their own hand tools. Skills in automotive diagnosis and repair open the doors to a multitude of jobs throughout the state and nation.

HONDA PACT (PROFESSIONAL AUTOMOTIVE CAREER TRAINING)
The American Honda Professional Automotive Career Training (PACT) program is available to students pursuing the Automotive Technician AAS Degree.

Transfer/Articulation Information: Students who complete the Automotive Maintenance & Light Repair Certificate of Completion may continue on to earn the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Automotive Technician , or an Entrepreneurship Emphasis, or Associate of Science Transfer Emphasis. Upon completion of the AAS or AS options students may transfer to UVU to complete their BS in the Technology Management Program or in Integrated Studies.

Program Entry Requirements: Students may enter into this program Summer, Fall, or Spring semester. Successful completion of, or testing out of, AUTO 1010  is required before students can enroll in additional automotive courses. To be able to test out of AUTO 1010 , a student must meet one of the following qualifications: 1. Completed two years of Auto classes in High School OR 2. Have at least one year of work experience as an automotive technician. If you meet one of these requirements, you may then speak with the instructor for this class, regarding the option to test out of AUTO 1010 . Successful completion of AUTO 1010  is a passing grade of a C or higher for either course completion or testing out.

AUTO 1010  can be taken as concurrent enrollment in High School programs. AUTO 1010  will also be offered in the summer semester and twice during both Fall and Spring semesters.

3. Completers will obtain Automotive Brakes entry level employment skills in accordance with NATEF standards. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7
4. Completers will obtain Automotive Electrical/Electronic Systems entry level employment skills in accordance with NATEF standards. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7

Note:


Additional General Education courses are required for students who choose to continue on to the AAS or AS degrees. Additional requirements include English Composition and courses in the Gen Ed Distribution Areas. For course selection, see the School of Technical Specialties Academic Advisor.

Note:


A passing grade for all required AUTO courses is a C or higher.
