Program Description: The two-semester certificate of completion will provide students with the basic knowledge and skills needed to operate as an aircraft dispatcher for scheduled commercial operations in the United States. The program combines certification courses with technical and professional courses essential for success leading to FAA endorsement; FAA aircraft dispatch certification; aviation industry and scheduled aircraft operations; and human factors in the flight environment. Certificate requirements may be used as credit toward entry-level requirements for Aerospace Aviation Technology AS Degree.

Career Opportunities: After completing the program, students may find employment as a certified dispatcher in scheduled and non-scheduled corporate and commercial flight operations.

Program Entry Requirements: The minimum age for dispatch applicants is 21.

Estimated Cost for Students: The cost of tuition per semester may be found at http://www.slcc.edu/cashiering/tuitionfees.asp. The average cost per semester for books and supplies is $800. Most textbooks can be obtained from the College’s bookstore, online, or are available at the pilot shop from the flight school on contract.

Estimated Time to Completion: 3 semesters minimum.

Specialized Accreditation: FAA approved Part 65 Dispatch Program. Must be 23 to take Dispatch Practical Exam

NOTE: This program is not eligible for financial aid.

Program Objectives: The FAA Approved Part 65 Dispatch Program prepared student to earn a Dispatch Certification. The student must demonstrate through knowledge tests, practical tests, and show through appropriate records that he/she meets the knowledge, skill, and experience requirement necessary. All program courses require a grade of C or higher to be considered a passing grade. Students enrolled must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or instructor approval to be recommended to take the FAA Practical exam.

Note:

Students who may want to pursue an AS degree in the future should take an approved Quantitative Literacy (QL) course, such as MATH 1030 , MATH 1040 , or MATH 1050 .

Advising Notes:

Students who need to take preparatory classes prior to entering the program should plan extra time to compete the program. High school curriculum in math, science and communication is recommended.

It is the students’ responsibility to understand the requirements for their chosen program of study and to examine each course description for details about the prerequisite classes. Credit for Prior Experience:

Any FAA Certification or Military training leading to certification must be reviewed by the department. Official copies of FAA Certification and/or Military training must be submitted for consideration. Private Certification or Private ground school experience may be substituted from the Major Course Requirements area after review or by any course work from any elective track within the Aerospace/Aviation Technology Degree. VA requires Veterans and dependents, receiving VA educational benefits, to submit all official transcripts to the Transfer Evaluation Office for review by the end of the 2nd semester enrolled.
