Program Description
The Practical Nursing program is a selective admission program that takes two semesters to complete. Successful completion entitles the student to a Technical Certificate, eligibility to sit for the NCLEX-PN, and ability to apply for a Utah Practical Nursing License.

The SLTech Practical Nursing program prepares students to sit for the NCLEX-PN to be licensed as a practical nurse (LPN). LPN’s can choose from numerous exciting career opportunities and practice in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, home health, assisted living facilities, state health agencies, and public health agencies.

GENERAL ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Complete SLCC Admissions Application (College enrollment)

Be admitted to SLCC as a matriculated student. See http://www.slcc.edu/apply/index.aspx and declare your major as Pre-Health Sciences: AS.

High School Graduate or equivalent.

For transfer credit, submit OFFICIAL, SEALED transcripts for ALL colleges and universities where prerequisite course work has been completed. Send to: SLCC Office of the Registrar and Academic Records, 4600 South Redwood Road, P.O. Box 30808, Salt Lake City, UT 84130-0808 (I recommend just instructing students to follow the instructions listed on the Transfer Evaluation webpage: https://www.slcc.edu/transcriptevaluation/transferring-to-slcc.aspx)

Also, a request to have an OFFICIAL evaluation of student’s transcript(s) must be submitted to the SLCC Transfer Evaluation Office. The form is located at: http://www.slcc.edu/transcriptevaluation/. This process may take up to 6 weeks or longer and must be completed before a student’s application will be considered.

GPA REQUIREMENTS: Science GPA of 2.75 or higher

Prerequisite courses must come from regionally accredited institutions (Utah State, U of U, Weber, Westminster, etc.). Courses from non-accredited institutions will not be accepted.

Prerequisite courses have no time limit, but it is encouraged that you have taken them within the past 4-5 years.

COMPLETION of Situational Judgement Test (SJT)

If you have a professional license, it must be an unencumbered license Preferred but not required: Direct Work Experience – direct patient care.

Extra Consideration given for the following: ENGL 1010 or 2010, with a grade of C or better, Prior AS or BS Degree, must be posted on transcript, Veteran Status, AHEC Scholars Graduate, FHS 1500 or PSY 1100

If conditionally accepted students must: Pass a Background Screening, Pass a Drug Screening, Possess an Active BLS (American Heart Association), Up-to-date Immunizations

There is no time limit associated with prerequisite courses, but it is encouraged to have taken your prerequisite courses within the past 4-5 years.
