Fitness Technician: AAS (CTE)

Program Description

The Fitness Technician Program is designed to prepare students to meet the growing demand in the fitness profession for personal trainers and Exercise Is Medicine clinicians. Core course content includes nutrition, kinesiology, exercise physiology, client motivation, fitness assessment, program design principles of weight training, flexibility, and cardio fitness. An internship of 120 hours is required to complete the degree.

Successful completion of the program prepares graduates to sit for certifications from various national organizations including (but not limited to): American College of Sport Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), ACSM - Exercise Is Medicine (EIM)  and Functional Movement Systems (FMS).

Student must earn a ‘C’ grade or above in required core courses to complete program.

Career Opportunities
The Fitness Technician program is designed to give students the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to acquire meaningful employment in the fitness industry. There is a need for well-trained Exercise Therapist and Personal Trainers.

REQUIRED:

Breadth Areas: 1 course from 1 of the Breadth Areas  required.  This requirement will be met by completion of program requirement NUTR 1020 - Scientific Foundations of Human Nutrition (LS) 

Courses that meet General Education requirements may be used to meet program requirements unless specified by the program. If this option is chosen, students must complete additional general elective courses to meet the total credit hour requirement.

  • Fitness Technician AAS: Full-time  
  • Time to completion is 4 semesters based on a full-time minimum of 15 credits per semester. Less than 15 credits per semester will increase time to completion.

  • Design and implement a comprehensive exercise prescription using scientific principles of behavior modification, strength, flexibility, and cardiorespiratory training. [1,4]
