Program Description
This degree is recommended for students who plan to transfer to four-year colleges. Completion of the Associate of Science degree with a Health Sciences emphasis does not affect the professional status, certification or licensure of graduates of associate of applied science degree programs in the Health Sciences Division.

Note: This degree is designed for students already accepted into other Health Sciences programs. It allows for courses already required to achieve a specific Associate of Applied Science degree to be combined with additional courses to earn an Associate of Science degree.

Transfer/Articulation Information
Admission into a major program at a transfer institution is solely determined by the transfer institution. Some major programs are restricted and require special application as well as a competitive GPA. See an Academic Advisor at both SLCC and the intended transfer institution for specific articulation information.

Entry Requirements
Students must be accepted into one of the Health Sciences programs that offers an Associate of Applied (AAS) Science degree.

Demonstrate a rate, of either intent for immediate employment or intent for admission to a baccalaureate program, of at least eighty percent (80%).

Eighty percent (80%) of graduates will rank “course content” and “quality of instruction” at the “GOOD” level or better.

NOTE Some of the General Education and Institutional Requirements may already be met in the AAS degree requirements.

Required Courses


An Associate of Science degree can be earned in the following AAS degree options in addition to completing the above General Education requirements. For information on specific courses, contact the Health Sciences Advising Receptionist, 801-957-6215, to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.

NOTE Students must also complete their AAS degree requirements in either: Dental Hygiene, Mortuary Science, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology or Nursing.

Dental Hygiene Option CTE


This option does NOT make the Dental Hygiene: AAS (CTE)  degree transferable to a Dental Hygiene baccalaureate degree.

Mortuary Science Option CTE


This option does NOT make the Mortuary Science: AAS (CTE)  degree transferable to a Mortuary Science baccalaureate degree.

Occupational Therapy Assistant Option CTE


This option does NOT make the Occupational Therapy Assistant: AAS (CTE)  degree transferable to an Occupational Therapy baccalaureate degree.

Physical Therapist Assistant Option CTE


This option does NOT make the Physical Therapist Assistant: AAS (CTE)  degree transferable to a Physical Therapy baccalaureate degree.

Radiologic Technology Option CTE


This option does NOT make the Radiologic Technology: AAS (CTE)  degree transferable to a Radiologic Technology baccalaureate degree.

Nursing Option CTE


This option may be helpful for the Nursing: AAS (CTE)  degree RN who is seeking admission to RN to BSN completion programs. Call the nursing academic advisor at (801) 957-6215 for additional information related to these programs.

Advising Notes


It is the student’s responsibility to examine each course description for details of prerequisite classes. Those prerequisites must be satisfied before the designated class may be taken. Students who need to take preparatory classes to meet requirements of first semester courses should plan on extra time to complete the program.
