Program Description: The Certificate of Proficiency in Marketing Essentials provides the foundational study of Marketing upon which students can build their skills in the Marketing career field.

Career Opportunities: There are many options to careers in marketing. Marketing can be defined as being the intermediary function between product development and sales. The great thing about marketing is it is a function that is needed in every company in every industry, so career potential is unlimited. There are career tracks in marketing that you can follow. You can find many opportunities in marketing in the following categories:

  • Market Research
  • Brand Management
  • Advertising
  • Promotions
  • Public Relations

The marketing field covers a broad range of career paths, from the creative to the analytical:

  • At the entry level, you find media buyers responsible for purchasing advertising time and materials.
  • At smaller companies, marketing specialists handle that task, and they also provide promotional copy and package design and help with marketing strategy.
  • Public relations assistants help relate a company’s goals to the public, through press releases, research, press coordination and events.

These entry-level marketing career paths may lead to a job in product or brand management, in which you would be responsible for the success of a brand in a competitive marketplace. Or you may decide to go into market research, the information-gathering arm of marketing. Experienced marketing professionals often start their own businesses or go into senior positions at companies or marketing firms. The marketing field is demanding and competitive, but offers great rewards for those with talent and the drive to excel.

For complete competence in Marketing Management, these courses should be complemented with other career specific, skill building courses. This Certificate of Proficiency may be used as a stackable credential for other Business AS or AAS degrees.

Estimated Cost for Students: In addition to SLCC tuition and fees http://www.slcc.edu/cashiering/tuitionfees.asp, the estimated cost of books is $300 per semester.
