The School of Applied Technology at Salt Lake Community College provides quality career and technical education in a flexible, competency-based format to meet the needs of students who desire low-cost training for high-skill job fields. Programs are responsive to business and industry requirements resulting in appropriate licensure, certification, or evidence of completion. Applied Technology programs specialize in non-credit, open-entry, open-exit instructional delivery. This means students may enroll weekly depending on the school calendar and available seats, and are able to complete courses when proficiency has been demonstrated and evaluated by instructors.
Program Description: Instruction is designed to assist students who want to improve their reading, writing, and/or math skills before entering vocational training. Faculty work with students on an individual basis using a variety of instructional materials to help them achieve the desired skill level. Most work can be applied toward high school completion/diploma if the student is registered in adult education through their school district. Computer-assisted instruction is also provided through the Integrated Learning Lab and is designed to supplement classroom activities. Instruction is geared to meet the needs of the most elementary level adults through high school/college reading, writing, and math skills.
