Program Description:
The Heavy Duty Diesel Maintenance Technician program prepares students for entry-level positions in diesel equipment service and repair shops. Students learn basic safety and shop skills to perform preventative maintenance and inspections, repair various brake systems, and adjust and maintain suspension and steering systems. Students are required to learn basic computer skills that are needed in the service environment.

Program Entry Requirements:
Students must demonstrate basic education skills as assessed by the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE):

Students will be able to diagnose and repair air brakes, ABS and wheel end components such as wheel seals and bearings. 1,4
Students describe importance of preventative maintenance, perform various inspections, identify and repair problems with equipment. 1,2,4

Students will be able to perform proper shop safety, properly identify and use a variety of fire extinguishers, and identify and use a variety hand tools, measuring tools and shop equipment. 1,4,6
