Program Description: Accounting is the process that summarizes economic information about a business entity for use by decision makers. Users of this information include investors, creditors, management and government agencies. Often this information is prepared using computer applications. The Accounting program at SLCC provides training in many types of accounting; such as financial, managerial, cost, individual taxation and governmental. Students are taught both manual and basic computerized accounting systems. This Certificate of Proficiency interfaces with continued study toward an SLCC AAS degree in Accounting or General Business.

Students who are interested in pursuing courses leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting should follow the courses listed in the Business Associate of Science or the Business Associate of Arts Degree listed elsewhere in this catalog.

NOTE: This Certificate of Proficiency is not eligible for financial aid. However, courses within the certificate may be eligible if taken as part of a financial aid eligible program. The certificate is financial aid eligible if you plan to stack it with other certificates, which will lead to a Certificate of Completion or AAS degree. Please check with the Financial Aid Office to determine if your classes are eligible.

Career Opportunities: This program provides excellent entry to mid-level skills for various positions in the field of accounting, depending on the individual person.

Transfer/Articulation Information: This is a terminal certificate. Several courses are transferable to other institutions. Students should check with the receiving institution to determine credit transferability.

Estimated Time to Completion: If taken during the spring semester, the time to completion is one semester. This accreditation represents the achievement of meeting the high national standards established for associate degree-granting business programs.
