Plan of Study
The following is a plan of requirements to complete this Associate of Pre-Science degree in 3 years. Each student’s experience will vary slightly, as this plan does not include transfer work, Advanced Placement (AP), or other institutions’ concurrent enrollment credits. Math and English placement will be based on the student’s appropriate placement scores. If developmental courses are required, they should be taken in the student’s first semester.
NOTE: This plan assumes the student is prepared to take the courses listed. If prerequisites are required, additional semesters may be required to complete this degree.
Meet with the Academic Program Advisor and consult DegreeWorks for specific degree requirements.

Advising Notes
- Students should carefully select their elective courses based on their academic preparation and how well these courses will transfer toward a Bachelor’s Degree. The Biology APS program is recommended for students who need additional math and science preparation before beginning major-level courses. While the degree map is designed around the typical math and English entry levels of Biology students, those needing developmental courses in these areas may experience delays in starting their APS program coursework.
- For students who are well-prepared in both math and science and can begin at or near MATH 1210, the Biology AS degree may be a more appropriate path.
- Some General Education requirements will be completed after transfer, with students needing to take at least one course each in Arts (AR), Humanities (HU), and Social Sciences (SS) at their transfer institution. Students’ schedules may allow for additional general education courses beyond the listed program requirements. In such cases, students who don’t plan to complete all general education requirements at SLCC should choose courses that align with their transfer institution’s requirements. However, if time permits completion of SLCC’s entire general education program, students are encouraged to pursue the Certificate of Proficiency in General Education alongside their Biology APS degree.
