Plan of Study 2020-2021
The following is a plan of requirements to complete this Associate of Science degree in 2 years. Each student’s experience will vary slightly, as this plan does not include transfer work, Advanced Placement (AP), or other institutions’ concurrent enrollment credits. Math and English placement will be based on the student’s appropriate placement scores. If developmental courses are required, they should be taken in the student’s first semester.
NOTE: This plan assumes the student is prepared to take the courses listed. If prerequisites are required, additional semesters may be required to complete this degree.
Meet with the Academic Program Advisor and consult DegreeWorks for specific degree requirements.

Advising Notes
- Students should plan to fulfill the DV requirement by taking a course outside of English. In addition, we strongly recommend, but do not require, that students select an English DV-designated course as one of their English electives, regardless of where students plan to transfer.
- Students who plan to transfer to an institution that grants a BA in English should begin their language studies, using elective credits, at SLCC. Additionally, even if they plan to transfer to an institution that grants a BS in English, students of literature may find substantial benefits to learning another language. Literature as an object and field of study draws from many language traditions, and learning another language enhances one’s understanding of this fact.
- These courses transfer to the University of Utah:
- ENGL 1200 Intro to Linguistics/Study of Language
- ENGL 2300 Intro to Shakespeare
- ENGL 2610 Diversity in American Lit
- ENGL 2330 Intro to Children’s Lit
- The University of Utah’s baccalaureate degree is a BA. Students who want to transfer to the U’s English program should be advised to use elective credit to take language courses.
- These courses transfer to Utah State University:
- ENGL 2710 Intro to Folklore
- ENGL 2830 Diverse Women Writers
- ENGL 2260 Intro to Writing Poetry
- ENGL 2300 Intro to Shakespeare
- ENGL 2330 Intro to Children’s Literature
- Students who wish to transfer to USU should begin conversations with an advisor at that university as early as possible, particularly if they wish to declare a teaching major.
- These courses transfer to Weber State University:
- ENGL 2260 Intro to Writing Poetry
- ENGL 2270 Intro to Writing Fiction
- ENGL 2830 Diverse Women Writers
- Weber State University’s baccalaureate degrees (both English Language & Literature, and Creative Writing, emphases) are BAs. Students who want to transfer to Weber’s English programs should be advised to use elective credit to take language courses.
- These courses transfer to Utah Valley University:
- ENGL 2710 Intro to Folklore
- ENGL 2300 Intro to Shakespeare
- ENGL 2850 Queer Studies
