Program Description
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology leads to a national certification and state licensure. The program offers students didactic and clinical experiences to learn skills of an entry-level radiographer. Radiology courses are taught at Jordan Health Sciences Bldg, Jordan Campus and clinical education occurs at local health care facilities. Students can complete General Education classes at any SLCC Campus location.

Career Opportunities
Radiographers provide patient services using imaging modalities at the request of physicians qualified to prescribe and/or perform radiologic procedures. A radiographer performs radiographic procedures, applies principles of radiation protection, evaluates radiographs for technical quality, exercises professional judgment and provides patient care. Radiographers can find employment in hospitals, clinics, private offices, industry and public health facilities.

  1. Be admitted to SLCC as a matriculated student. See www.slcc.edu/students-future/admissions
  2. High School Graduate or equivalent.
  3. For transfer credit, submit OFFICIAL, SEALED transcripts for ALL colleges and universities where prerequisite course work has been completed. Send to:

  1. Also, a request to have an OFFICIAL evaluation of student’s transcript must be submitted to the SLCC Transfer Evaluation Office. The form is located at : http://www.slcc.edu/transcriptevaluation/. This process may take 4-6 weeks and must be completed before a student’s application will be considered.
  2. Complete Accuplacer exam, or submit current SAT/ACT test scores, if MATH and ENGL course work have not been transferred to SLCC (required before you are able to register for classes that have MATH and RDG/WRTG courses as prerequisites). See: www.slcc.edu/testing
  3. Program course prerequisites are as follows (Courses listed below (or equivalent transfer credit, AP or CLEP) must be completed with a C grade or better with the exception of BIOL 2320 and BIOL 2325 which must be completed with a B- grade or better within the past five years. All courses are limited to two attempts within the past 5 years):

NOTE:  All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to submitting application for the Radiologic Technology program. It is the student’s responsibility to examine each course description for details of other prerequisite classes. Those prerequisites must be satisfied before the designated program prerequisite course may be taken.

Pre-admission exam - A minimum score of 75% is required for consideration for admission to the program. However, this does not guarantee admission into the program. Please see the Radiologic Technology program academic advisor.

AP courses - We will accept an AP score of 3 or higher for a prerequisite for admission into the program. However, this does not guarantee acceptance into the program.  Please see the Radiologic Technology Assistant program academic advisor.

Estimated Time to Completion
Students will follow the program semester schedule. It will take four semesters and one summer semester (Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring), to complete the program.

Specialized Accreditation
The program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), 20 N. Wacker Dr., Suite 2850, Chicago, IL 60606-3182. Graduates are eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) examination in Radiography.

Advising Notes:

Radiology classes are held during the day, either 1 to 2 days per week depending on the semester. Clinical education experiences are held during the day, 3 days per week. Students may be required to attend non-traditional clinical hours (evenings & weekends) at some facilities. Weekend shifts in the hospitals allow the student to see a variety of examinations and work more independently than during the week. These rotations will be limited to once a month. Hospitals requiring this will be announced during new student orientations.

An evening program is offered every even-numbered year. Classes are held either 1 or 2 nights per week depending on the semester. Students are required to attend 1 day and 2 evening clinical shifts each week per semester throughout the program.

Clinical and academic involvement for students may never exceed 40 hours per week.
