Program Description
Accounting is the process that summarizes economic information about a business entity for use by decision makers. Users of this information include investors, creditors, management, and government agencies. Often this information is prepared using computer applications. The Accounting program at SLCC provides training in many types of accounting, such as financial, managerial, individual taxation, and governmental. Students are taught both manual and basic computerized accounting systems.

Courses taken to complete this Certificate of Proficiency satisfy requirements for the Accounting Associates of Applied Science (AAS) Degree.

Students who are interested in pursuing courses leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting should follow the courses listed in the Business Associate of Science (AS) Degree or the Business Associate of Arts (AA) Degree listed elsewhere in this catalog.

This program provides excellent entry level skills for various positions in the field of accounting, depending on the individual person.

  • Accounting Essentials CP: Part-time  
  • Time to completion is 1-2 semesters based on a full-time minimum of 15 credits per semester. Less than 15 credits per semester will increase time to completion.
