Program Description
The Fitness Technician Program is designed to prepare students to meet the growing demand in the fitness profession for personal trainers and Exercise Is Medicine clinicians. Core course content includes nutrition, kinesiology, exercise physiology, client motivation, fitness assessment, program design principles of weight training, flexibility, and cardio fitness. An internship of 120 hours is required to complete the degree.
Successful completion of the program prepares graduates to sit for certifications from various national organizations including (but not limited to): American College of Sport Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), ACSM - Exercise Is Medicine (EIM) and Functional Movement Systems (FMS).
Student must earn a ‘C’ grade or above in required core courses to complete program.
Career Opportunities
The Fitness Technician program is designed to give students the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to acquire meaningful employment in the fitness industry. There is a need for well-trained Exercise Therapist and Personal Trainers.
Transfer/Articulation Information
Program is not meant to transfer/articulate as it is meant to lead directly into a fitness profession. Some classes do transfer to four year institutions, check with their advisors for transfer information.
