Academic and Career Advising

Program Description
The Interdisciplinary Studies degree is designed for students of varied interests in a major not currently offered at SLCC. Option 1) Students will complete a total of nineteen credits from two disciplines to build their major. Option 2) Student will create their own major consisting of nineteen credits.  Students in either option must complete thirty four credits of General Education. Students are required to take the one credit IDS 1050 Foundations of Interdisciplinary Studies course and the two-credit IDS 2050 Capstone Course.  Students will work closely with an Academic Advisor to certify their path to graduation and transfer.

Career Opportunities
Students of Interdisciplinary Studies have the opportunity to create a major that allows them to transfer or enter the workforce after graduation.

Transfer/Articulation Information
Admission into a major program at a transfer institution depends upon the receiving institution’s requirements for that major. Some major programs are restricted and require special application as well as a competitive GPA. See an Academic Advisor at both SLCC and the intended receiving institution for specific articulation information, also available at http://www.slcc.edu/student/transfer/.

Students should also be advised that a Bachelor of Arts (BA) will require four semesters or more of a foreign language and many four-year institutions may require those courses to be taken consecutively. SLCC also offers a wider selection of languages than many transfer institutions; it may not be possible to continue study of a specific language after transfer. Students should check with the institution to which they plan to transfer.
