Program Description
The Theatre Department offers a two-year program in theatre for students planning to major in either performance or technical theatre at a four-year institution, or directly pursue theatre professionally. Students will have the opportunity to develop their abilities in acting for the stage, screen and other media. Students will also develop their knowledge and abilities in theatrical and screen production.

Departmental offerings include Introduction to Theatre, Introduction to Film, Acting classes for stage, screen and other media, Stagecraft, Musical Theatre, Voice and Movement, Voice and Diction, Voice-Over Acting, Script Analysis, Lighting Design, Scenic Painting, Stage Make-up, Sound Design and Production, and Film and Theatre production. The department also offers opportunities to develop individual skills in a variety of theatrical productions, and cooperative projects with the film production classes each semester. Students will learn practical skills involved in working performance and backstage roles within stage and film productions.

The Theatre Department faculty supports high standards in theatre education, enriched with film collaboration; they encourage and mentor individual students to attain their highest potential.

Career Opportunities
Students may obtain employment and/or internships with theatres in the local communities and nation-wide as performers, technical/running crew members, stage managers, and directors. Performers may seek representation by talent agencies in order to work in the film and television industry. Many actors and technicians do not hold regular jobs in the field, but work as contract entrepreneurs.

Transfer/Articulation Information
Students may continue on to baccalaureate granting institutions in performance and technical production.

Program Entry Requirements
There are no requirements to enter the program itself, but there is a required audition to take THEA 1190 Production, which all theatre majors must take twice. Acting Track majors should contact Zac Curtis: Zachary.curtis@slcc.edu for audition information. Technical Track majors should contact Charlie Monte: Charlie.monte@slcc.edu for an interview.
