Program Description
This non-credit training program prepares students to pass the National Medical Coding Certification Exam (CPC-A) and work in outpatient medical coding areas of hospitals, larger medical clinics, medical supply companies and doctors’ offices. It provides basic clerical training in computer concepts, Internet, e-mail, word basics, medical terminology, insurance billing, medical accounting/patient scheduling software, outpatient coding, (CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS), HIPAA Certification and spreadsheets. Emphasis is placed on customer service relations. This curriculum includes an 80-hour cooperative externship at a medical facility billing and/or coding department.

Estimated time to completion is 48 weeks based on a minimum of 16 hours per week. Less than 16 hours per week will increase time to completion.
