Program Description
Business Associate of Arts degrees is designed as transfer degrees to business schools at four-year institutions within the Utah System of Higher Education. Requirements at four-year colleges and universities are subject to change; ongoing planning is essential. Students interested in degrees designed for immediate business employment should review the Certificates and Associate of Applied Science degrees.
The Associate of Arts degree requires the study of a foreign language. Obtain initial general advising from any General Academic Advisor and advanced or transfer information through the Business Academic Advisor, Taylorsville Redwood Campus, Business Building, room 226E.
Transfer/Articulation Information
Course articulation agreements exist with Brigham Young University, College of Eastern Utah, Utah Tech University, Southern Utah University, Snow College, University of Utah, Utah State University, Utah Valley University, Weber State University and Westminster College. Agreements are available in Business Building, room 226E, or Student Center room 240 in the Transfer Center files or with academic advisors at other campuses. Transfer planning is essential. Advisors are available in Business Building, Room BB 226E, or Student Center Room 240, or advising at other SLCC campuses. Students who will major in accounting should consider completing the accounting courses just prior to transfer so they are ready for the junior level accounting requirements.
BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY - Pre-Accounting Majors
Accounting at BYU is a limited enrollment, competitive admission major, accepting students once a year for fall only. Prerequisites—ACC 200 or 201; ACC 310 or 202; MCOM 320; ISYS 201; ISYS 100 & 101 (CIS 2010)—must be completed with the grades posted before applying to the accounting program. ACCT 2010 (BYU ACC 201) and ACCT 2020 (ACC 202) must have a minimum grade of ‘B’ or better. All prerequisite transfer grades are discounted .3 (e.g., A to A-). Transfer students can increase their acceptance possibilities by (1) taking BYU’s ACC 310 and (2) complete one semester of BYU courses. These courses may also be completed at the BYU Salt Lake Center. The minimum GPA to apply is 3.0, but the typical GPA for admissions to accounting is 3.8. Rolling admissions begins Nov. 1 of the preceding year. (Rolling admissions means that the accounting committee sets a very high acceptance standard and any students who meets that acceptance standard is accepted prior to the final application deadline the last working day of June. Information Systems (ISYS) at BYU is a limited enrollment, competitive admission major, accepting students once a year for fall only. Prerequisites—BYU’s ISYS 201, ISYS 303; ACC 200 or 201 (ACCT 2010 ); MCOM 320; ISYS 100 & 101(CIS 2010)—must be completed with the grades posted before applying to the ISYS program. All prerequisite transfer grades are discounted .3 (e.g., A to A-).The minimum GPA is 3.0 but the typical GPA for admissions is 3.5 to 3.7. BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY - Pre-Management Majors
Management at BYU is a limited enrollment, competitive admission major, accepting students fall, winter, and spring semesters (spring semester at SLCC is called winter semester at BYU). Prerequisites—MATH 119; STAT 121; ECON 110; ACC 201 (ACCT 2010 ); ISYS 100 & 101 (CIS 2010)—must be completed with the grades posted before applying to the accounting program. Grades for BUS 1100 (MATH 119), MGT 2040 (STAT 121), ECON 2010 & ECON 2020 (ECON 110) are discounted .3 (A to A-). Overall GPA and last 30 hrs GPA are not discounted. The minimum GPA to apply is 3.0 but the typical GPA of recently admitted students is a 3.7 (Prerequisites GPA +Overall GPA +Last 30 hours GPA=Average GPA). UTAH TECH UNIVERSITY
The minimum pre-business GPA is 2.5. No pre-business courses below a grade of “C-” are accepted. CIS 1200 (ComputerLiteracy) and CIS 2010 (Business Computer Proficiency) with a “B-” grade or better clear the computer proficiency requirement. DSC accepts an Interpersonal Communication or Public Speaking course to fulfill its Communication pre-business requirement. DSC highly recommends that interested Business/Accounting students meet with a DSC Business advisor before transferring for additional information and requirements. SOUTHERN UTAH UNIVERSITY
CSIS 1020 with a B grade or better clears the computer proficiency requirement to enter upper-division course work. CIS 2010 is required as of fall 2007. Business course requirements that can be taken as part of General Education: PSY 1010 (SS) or SOC 1010 (SS) . The minimum GPA requirements are a 2.5+ in the pre-business and upper-division courses, including all transfer work.
UNIVERSITY OF UTAH
The David Eccles School of Business requires a 3.2 total and business GPA for admission to Upper Division and a minimum grade of a C- or higher in pre-business courses. GPAs of 3.0 to 3.19 are subject to Admission Committee review. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and transfer students complete with pre-business courses or in progress with their final pre-business courses are encouraged to apply at http://undergrad.business.utah.edu/form/application-upper-division-status prior to attending the University of Utah. All students admitted to Upper Division are automatically assigned to the Business Administration degree program. Admission to other undergraduate majors in the David Eccles School of Business requires a separate application, prerequisite courses and subsequent review. UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY
SLCC Business AS/AA transfer students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be automatically accepted into USU’s College of Business. Students with a GPA below 3.5 must complete the prerequisites and apply to the Huntsman School of Business. The prerequisites include: a ‘C’ grade or better in Microeconomics, Business Statistics, and Intermediate Writing (ENGL 2010 ). Students who plan to major in Accounting must have a grade of ‘B’ or better in Accounting must have a grade of ‘B’ or better in Accounting 2010. The Huntsman School of Business also requires Business Communication (BUS 2200 ) which can be completed in addition to or as a part of the Business AS or AA degree. A GPA of 3.0 is usually the lower end of applicants who are accepted.
Students may pursue a degree in Business Administration or in Management Information Systems (MIS) through USU Salt Lake located at 2500 South State Street in Salt Lake City. The minimum required GPA is 2.67. For further information, call (385) 646-5570.
UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY
The overall minimum GPA is a 2.5. No business courses below a grade of ‘C-’ are accepted. CSIS 1020 and CIS 2010 with a ‘B’ grade or better clear the computer proficiency requirement. UVU also requires SLCC’s BUS 2200 - Business Communications (CM) .
Utah Valley University (UVU) offers an online Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management. Students completing an AS/AA in Business at SLCC will satisfy their general education and some lower division discipline requirements for the Hospitality Management Program. Various upper and lower division courses in Hospitality Management will be available online through UVU. WEBER STATE UNIVERSITY
CIS 2010 with a ‘B’ grade (80%) or better to clear the computer proficiency requirement to enter upper-division course work. COMM 1020 recommended. Before applying for admission to the Goddard School of Business students must attend at least one semester at WSU. They must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. An overall GPA of 2.5 and a grade of C- or higher is required for ACCT 2010 , ECON 2010 , ECON 2020 , and MGT 2040 . Students must also have a Transfer Summary validation completed. Request this from the GSBE Academic Advising Center at WSU.
WESTMINSTER COLLEGE
Students with an AA or AS degree have all general education requirements (WCore) fulfilled except Engaging the World and Senior Capstone which will be completed at Westminster. Students who follow a course of study recommended by Westminster (found at www.westminstercollege.edu/slcc) can complete a bachelor of science degree in two additional years.
