Program Description
Accounting is the process that summarizes economic information about a business entity for use by decision makers. Users of this information include investors, creditors, management and government agencies. Often this information is prepared using computer applications. The Accounting program at SLCC provides training in many types of accounting; such as financial, managerial, individual taxation, and governmental. Students are taught both manual and basic computerized accounting systems. General Education courses provide training in effective oral and written communication and human relations skills.

The Accounting Department offers Certificates of Proficiency (CP) in the following areas:

Accounting Essentials CP 
Intermediate Accounting CP  

Completion of the General Education requirements, the Business Basics: CP (CTE) , and the two (2) Certificates of Proficiency listed above, with a minimum of 63 credit hours, allows a student to be eligible to apply for an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting.

Career Opportunities
This program provides excellent entry to mid-level skills for various positions in the field of accounting, depending on the individual person.

Transfer/Articulation Information
This is a 2-year terminal degree. Several courses are transferable to other institutions. Students should check with the receiving institution to determine credit transferability.

Students who are interested in pursuing courses leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting should follow the courses listed in the Business Associate of Science or the Business Associate of Arts Degree listed elsewhere in this catalog.
