Program Description
The Technical Theatre Certificate program provides students with training required to work in the technical theatre industry. It includes training in Theatrical construction, lighting, sound, design, and hands-on production work which will prepare students to compete in the professional theatre world.

The Theatre Department faculty supports high standards in theatre education, enriched with film collaboration; they encourage and mentor individual students to attain their highest potential.

Career Opportunities
There are numerous opportunities in technical theatre including Lighting, Sound, construction, stagehand work, stage management, and design for theatre, film, music, or speaking events. Students may obtain employment and/or internships with theatre, film, or event organizations and venues in the local communities or nation-wide. Technicians and designers may seek membership in industry unions. Many technicians do not hold regular jobs in the field, but work as contract entrepreneurs.

Students may continue on to baccalaureate granting institutions in Technical Theatre. The Technical Theatre Certificate of Proficiency is embedded within the Theatre Arts AS degree, but in itself the certificate is currently not transferable to most four-year institutions; however, the courses themselves are transferable.
