Program Description
The nursing program is a selective admission program that takes two years to complete once accepted. Successful completion entitles the student to an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) and eligibility to test for a Registered Nursing license.
Career Opportunities
The SLCC nursing program prepares students to sit for the NCLEX exam to be licensed as a registered nurse (RN). RN’s can choose from a variety of exciting career opportunities and practice in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, home health, assisted living facilities, state health agencies, and public health agencies.
Transfer/Articulation
The SLCC Nursing program currently has an articulation agreement with the University of Utah. Additional articulation agreements are currently in discussion.

Other: $100 Trajecsys reporting system. Used to track clinical check offs, scheduling, activity reports and time records for students’ clinical requirements $200 Clinical Fees.
Estimate Time to Completion
Time to completion is 4 semesters. Students will follow the program semester schedule. Additional time is needed to complete the pre-requisite courses. Please see Nursing academic advisor.
Program Entry Requirements
GENERAL ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
- Be admitted to SLCC as a matriculated student. See http://www.slcc.edu/apply/index.aspx and declare your major as Pre-Medical and Health Sciences.
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- For transfer credit, submit OFFICIAL, SEALED transcripts for ALL colleges and universities where prerequisite course work has been completed. Send to: SLCC Office of the Registrar and Academic Records, 4600 South Redwood Road, P.O. Box 30808, Salt Lake City, UT 84130-0808
- Also, a request to have an OFFICIAL evaluation of student’s transcript(s) must be submitted to the SLCC Transfer Evaluation Office. The form is located at: http://www.slcc.edu/transcriptevaluation/. This process may take up to 6 weeksor longer and must be completed before a student’s application will be considered.

NURSING PROGRAM SELECTIVE ADMISSONS APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Program course prerequisites must be completed with a C grade or better. AP Credit: AP scores of 3 or higher for a prerequisite course will be considered for admission into the program; however, this does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Please see the Nursing program academic advisor with questions.
It is the student’s responsibility to examine each course description for details of other prerequisite classes. Those prerequisites must be satisfied before the designated program prerequisite course may be taken.
NOTE We will accept an equivalent AP course (with a score of 3 or higher) toward the prerequisite application requirements for the nursing program. Please see the nursing academic advisor for an interpretation of your AP scores grade equivalences.

A CNA license from the state of Utah within the last three years of applying OR a mastered competency (MC) in the SLCC CNA course taken within the last three years of applying will be required to be eligible to apply for the Nursing program. Other certifications or trainings such as MA, EMT, etc. will not be accepted for eligibility to apply. Documentation that verifies this must be submitted to HealthSciencesAdmissions@slcc.edu within 5 days of submitting your application (priority review and application deadlines still apply). Documentation may also be mailed to Health Sciences Admissions, PO Box 30808, Salt Lake City, UT 84130; or dropped off in person at the Jordan Campus at 3491 W Wights Fort Rd, JHS 065, West Jordan UT.

It is highly recommended that Pathophysiology be taken prior to applying.

Transcripts must be sent to the Transfer Evaluation Office by March 15 for Fall sessions, August 1 for Spring sessions. The last semester to take pre-reqs for the upcoming Fall session would be Summer or Fall, ex. Summer or Fall 2020 to be considered for Fall 2021, and Spring, ex. Spring 2021 to be considered for Spring 2022. Grades must be posted to the transcripts at the time they are sent to the TEO.

NOTE Required Support Courses: Although not mandatory for admission purposes, it is strongly recommended they be completed before applying for the nursing program. Support courses not completed before admission to the nursing program must be completed prior to beginning the third semester of the nursing program (with a C or better).
NURSING PROGRAM ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Students who have been awarded Conditional Acceptance will be required to purchase a COMPLIO (American DataBank) Compliance Package and submit the following in COMPLIO:
- Proof of all required program immunizations or proof of immunity.
- Proof of successful completion of CPR certificate (American Heart Association Two-Year BLS, American Red Cross BLS).
- Certification must not expire while in program.
- Purchase and complete background check through SLCC’s authorized vendor (American DataBank). Failure to pass background check may result in program dismissal.
- Upon notification, purchase and complete drug screening through SLCC’s authorized vendor. Failure to pass drug screen may result in program dismissal. Students are not to purchase drug screening until notified.
- Students are fiscally responsible for complying with requirements specific to working in clinical settings. The following costs are estimates only for planning. Actual cost and frequency are determined by vendors and specific clinical facilities. Estimated costs include:
- Background check - $30
- Drug Screen Package - $35
- Compliance Package - $15/yr
- Immunizations (Cost varies considerably based on insurance coverage, past vaccinations, and personal immunity)

The program provides both general and technical education for all nursing students, including practical nurses to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Registered Nursing.
Specific information will be given to accepted students by program faculty regarding testing sites that have been approved by SLCC for both drug-screening test and criminal background check. The expenses of these requirements are additional student costs.
The clinical placement agencies make the final determination about accepting students for placement in their facility and may decline to have students placed at their facility, based on the criminal background record of the student. The latter may cause the student not to be able to complete all of the program requirements.
In addition, if the criminal background check discloses issues of concern it will be the responsibility of the student to contact the licensing agency and seek advice regarding eligibility for licensure and requirements needed to progress in this profession.
For students who choose to complete their LPN licensure, the Program offers a Preparation for NCLEX-PN Examination course at the completion of the first year.
Students accepted into the nursing program must meet the same health and safety requirements as the participating clinical facilities require of their own employees.
