Program Description
Accounting is the process that summarizes economic information about a business entity for use by decision makers. Users of this information include investors, creditors, management and government agencies. Often this information is prepared using computer applications. The Accounting program at SLCC provides training in many types of accounting; such as financial, managerial, individual taxation, and governmental. Students are taught both manual and basic computerized accounting systems. This Certificate of Proficiency interfaces with continued study toward an SLCC AAS degree in Accounting or General Business.

Students who are interested in pursuing courses leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting should follow the courses listed in the Business Associate of Science or the Business Associate of Arts Degree listed elsewhere in this catalog.

This program provides excellent entry to mid-level skills for various positions in the field of accounting, depending on the individual person.

This is a terminal certificate. Several courses are transferable to other institutions. Students should check with the receiving institution to determine credit transferability.

Note This Certificate of Proficiency is not eligible for financial aid. However, courses within the certificate may be eligible if taken as part of a financial aid eligible program such as an AS or AAS degree. Please check with the Financial Aid Office to determine course and program eligibility.

Estimated Time to Completion
Time to completion is 1-2 semesters based on a full-time minimum of 15 credits per semester. Less than 15 credits per semester will increase time to completion.

Advising Notes

ACCT 1110  must be completed with a C- or higher before taking ACCT 1120 . ACCT 1120  must be completed with a C- or higher before taking ACCT 2300 . Completion of ACCT 2010  (instead of ACCT 1110  and ACCT 1120 ) requires instructor approval to register for ACCT 2300 .

This certificate is part of a group of stackable certificates leading to the AAS degree. Students completing this certificate alone will need to compete various prerequisites.

This Certificate of Proficiency is intended to be part of a 2-year terminal degree. Some courses are transferable to other institutions. Students should check with the receiving institution to determine credit transferability.
