All Associate of Arts (AA) degrees include a Language requirement. The requirement can be fulfilled by any 1020 course (Second Semester Language). 1020 courses are listed as (LN). Students with no previous language experience will need to complete a two-semester, 10-credit sequence (1010/1020) in the chosen language. Students with existing language ability may be able to place directly into 1020 or a higher-level language course. The language requirement may also be fulfilled by taking Third or Fourth Semester Language (LANG 2010 or 2020) or by qualifying for experiential language credit (see advisor or department for procedures). Non-native speakers of English are required to use English course work to meet the language requirement. Important for students intending to transfer: the Bachelor’s degree requirement is LANG 2020. Courses should be taken early in a student’s educational career.
It is important to consult the course schedule or a language faculty member for current course offerings and to plan ahead. At this time many LANG 1020 courses are offered in the Spring only, due to staffing issues and student demand.
