Program Description
Social Work students learn to provide professional services for emotionally, economically or socially disadvantaged persons.
This introductory level program will acquaint students to the multi-faceted, multi-skilled Social Work profession. Students learn issues in the provision of services to emotionally, economically, mentally or socially disadvantaged persons. The program also requires internships where the student will learn to apply and further understand theoretical frameworks discussed in class.
Career Opportunities
Individuals with an Associate’s Degree in Social Work can be employed as an intake worker or in other support roles within the social work environment. The social work associate’s degree is primarily designed to prepare students for successful transfer to a bachelor of social work program at a college or university.

The SLCC Social Work program works closely with the other colleges and universities that offer social work degrees. Before taking elective courses, please consult with your SLCC academic advisor. It is also recommended that students contact the academic advisor at the institution where they plan to transfer.

Admission into a major program at a transfer institution depends upon the receiving institution’s requirements for that major. Some major programs are restricted and require special application, volunteer and/or paid experience in the community as well as a competitive GPA. Estimated Time to Completion
Time to completion is 4 semesters based on a full-time minimum of 15-16 credits per semester. Less than 15-16 credits per semester will increase time to completion.
Licensure Information
The Social Work AA program alone does not lead to professional licensure. This program prepares students for application and transfer to other programs of study that could eventually lead to professional licensure.
