Program Description
The Clinical Lab Assistant Program will provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to competently perform the duties of an entry level medical laboratory assistant.  Clinical Lab Assistants are trained to work in doctors’ offices, hospital laboratories and other outpatient labs as an integral member of the allied health care delivery team.  

Clinical Lab Assistants perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease and may work under the supervision of a medical technologist.  The curriculum will allow the students to gain competency in cognitive, psychomotor and affective competencies in entry level laboratory skills.  The program will be offered in a flexible open entry / open exit format.     

Instruction will be achieved in a Competency Based Education format with a combination of online, classroom, laboratory, and clinical activities.

Advising Notes


The new KCLA 0050 Clinical Lab Externship course is not a required course for this program but is a stand alone elective course the student can choose to complete as desired following KCLA 0040 for additional laboratory experience in a working laboratory that has an active affiliation agreement with the college.
