Program Description
The Web Graphic Design Certificate of Proficiency is designed to prepare students to design websites from concept to completion and includes coursework in basic design principles, website architecture, graphic design, web animation, audio and video production, and website promotion.  Students will prepare a portfolio of websites they can use to demonstrate their skills to potential employers.

Career Opportunities
Upon completion of program, students will qualify for work as assistants or junior web designers.

Transfer/Articulation
This certificate is currently not transferable to four year institutions; however, some of the General Education components are transferable. The Visual Art & Design Department is committed to general and pre-professional programs and some credit may be granted by receiving institutions on a per case basis.

In addition to tuition and fees, and depending on chosen electives, web design students may expect to pay an estimated $300 for books, hosting and supplies needed for class projects and portfolio development in this two-year program.

Note: This Certificate of Proficiency is not eligible for financial aid. However, courses within the certificate may be eligible if taken as part of a financial aid eligible program. Please check with the Financial Aid Office to determine if your classes are eligible.

Estimated Time to Completion
If students follow the suggested semester schedule, time to completion is two semesters.

Program Entry Requirements
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Recommended: Artistic and technical aptitude, familiarity with traditional drawing, computers, and graphic software.

Design and create complete information architecture of a website to industry standards while demonstrating substantive field knowledge, critical thinking and effective communication.

Demonstrate competencies to design and create web site assets, such as buttons, illustrations, images, video, and sound, and so on in appropriate formats using industry standard coding and appropriate software.

Incorporate visual communication design principles including color theory, typography, and layout into websites.

Export appropriate image and associated web assets compressed appropriately. The site effectiveness will be evaluated by both peer teams and the instructor.
