Program Description
In the Network Engineer program, students will learn through hands-on training to install, configure, operate, administer, and troubleshoot Cisco routers and switches as well as Microsoft Windows desktop and server systems and services to support the day-to-day operations of small, medium, and enterprise network environments. Elective courses provide training options in Linux, network security fundamentals, data storage, as well as advanced Windows Server and Cisco topics.  This training can be used as a step to gaining valuable industry recognized certification titles including Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA). , Linux Essentials and CompTIA Security +.

A broad range of client, server, and network management topics are covered in this program including Cisco router and switch configuration, routing protocols, VLANs, network optimization and troubleshooting, file and print services, directory services, user and group account management, automation of tasks through scripts, remote management and administration, domain controller management,  software distribution and updates, audit policies, vulnerability assessment, firewall configuration, network access protection, encryption, data backup and recovery, disaster prevention, RAID configuration, cluster services, network load balancing, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, VPN configuration, Terminal Services, Routing, Patch Management, operating system virtualization, Hyper-V, and more.

Advising Notes


It is recommended that students have CompTIA A+ equivalent knowledge to enter this program (A+ certification is not required). Those with limited or no previous computer network experience should consider enrolling in the Computer Support Specialist program prior to seeking enrollment in the Network Administrator program. Students who are unsure if they meet the minimum requirements should contact the instructor prior to enrolling.

Courses offered in this program reflect current requirements to prepare for certification in the following areas:

  • CCENT: The Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician certification validates candidate’s ability to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network and perform basic network security tasks.
  • CCNA: The Cisco Certified Network Associate certification validates candidate’s ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-sized routed and switched networks, and implement and verify connections to remote sites in a wide-area network (WAN). 
  • MTA: The Microsoft Technology Associate Windows Server Administration Fundamentals certification validates candidate’s knowledge of fundamental server administration concepts.
  • MCP: The Microsoft Certified Professional title is earned by passing specific Microsoft exams.
  • MCSA: The Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate title confirms that a candidate has the skills and knowledge necessary for implementing, managing, maintaining, and provisioning services and infrastructure in a Windows Server environment. Candidates must pass the three following certification exams to earn the MCSA title: 1) Exam 70-410: Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012; 2) Exam 70-411: Administering Windows Server 2012; and 3) Exam 70-412: Configuring Advanced Windows Server 2012 Services.
