The Film Production Technician program provides students with the specialized knowledge required to perform a wide variety of tasks encountered in the professional world of film production.

Students master skills required to be competitive for technical positions in the film industry. Such skills will include the interpretation of technical terms and functions, the operation of camera equipment, and understanding production workflow, scene composition, lighting, audio, and post-production. Students will understand production design, sound stage operations including grip and electric work.

Students may train for various film industry positions such as camera operator, boom operator, assistant directing, assistant editor, sound recordist, light technician, special effects, and motion graphic artist.

The Salt Lake Community College program involves students with full time faculty as well as expert film industry professionals who teach courses within their areas of expertise. The local film industry is highly supportive of efforts to train people in these areas and will provide internship opportunities for SLCC students.
