ANTH 1040 - Language and Culture: Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology (SS)

This course explores the nature of human language and its role in sociocultural settings as it relates to race, ethnicity, gender, class, history, and identity. Surveys a world sample of languages from the perspective of anthropological linguistics including language structure, social functions, geographical and historical variation, and cultural values.
