Plan of Study

The following is a plan of requirements to complete this Certificate of Proficiency in 2 years. Each student’s experience will vary slightly, as this plan does not include transfer work, Advanced Placement (AP), or other institutions’ concurrent enrollment credits. Math and English placement will be based on the student’s appropriate placement scores. If developmental courses are required, they should be taken in the student’s first semester.

NOTE: This plan assumes the student is prepared to take the courses listed. If prerequisites are required, additional semesters may be required to complete this degree.

Advising Notes

  • Students may enroll in the Low Voltage Technician Apprenticeship program without being employed in the industry. Still, it is highly recommended that they be registered with DOL by their Sponsor (employer) before starting the program.
  • The classes listed are sequential and are to be taken in order. All TELV courses must be taken to complete the apprenticeship curriculum. The math or English prerequisite does not fulfill any of the apprenticeship hours required. To move to the next class level, students must pass each course with a C+ or higher. Failure to complete the necessary coursework or to register on time for each class will add one full year to the apprentice’s program.
  • The student must understand the requirements for their chosen program of study and examine each course description for details about the prerequisite classes. It is highly recommended that each student meets with the Apprenticeship Program Advisor before starting this program. The Program Advisor may be reached in Academic Advising.
  • For additional program information, contact the Apprenticeship Office, Taylorsville Redwood Campus, CT 274, (801) 957-4066.
