Plan of Study
The following is a plan of requirements to complete this Associate of Arts degree in 5 semesters. Each student’s experience will vary slightly, as this plan does not include transfer work, Advanced Placement (AP), or other institutions’ concurrent enrollment credits. Math and English placement will be based on the student’s appropriate placement scores. If developmental courses are required, they should be taken in the student’s first semester.
NOTE: This plan assumes the student is prepared to take the courses listed. If prerequisites are required, additional semesters may be required to complete this degree.

General Education and Institutional Requirements
Completing the core course requirements for this program can also satisfy the HU and IG general education requirements, but students are also welcome/encouraged to take additional HU and IG courses to fill any of their program or general electives.
Not all General Education distribution requirements (like LS, FA, PS) can be satisfied with a Program Choice course. Students must fulfill all Distribution requirements with courses which are not on the list of PHRS Program Choice.
Students are encouraged to fulfill the DV requirement by taking a course on the list of Program Choice or Program Electives.
AA Language Requirement
Like all AA programs, the Philosophy and Religious Studies Program has a LANG 1020 (LN) language requirement for its degree. But that requirement can be met in a variety of ways. Dual-language immersion students, heritage speakers, and other students who have adequate proficiency in a second language may satisfy the language requirement through a) proficiency testing, b) an AP score of 3 or higher, or c) equivalent prior college-level coursework. ESL and non-native English speakers will meet the requirement through coursework in ESL or English, in accordance with the policies stated in the SLCC catalog. Any student who demonstrates the required level of language ability in fewer than 5 credit hours is required to complete an additional elective, to meet the AA degree’s 61 credit hours total.
