Plan of Study
The following is a plan of requirements to complete this Associate of Arts degree in two years. Each student’s experience will vary slightly, as this plan does not include transfer work, Advanced Placement (AP), or other institutions’ concurrent enrollment credits. Math and English placement will be based on the student’s appropriate placement scores. If developmental courses are required, they should be taken in the student’s first semester.
NOTE: This plan assumes the student is prepared to take the courses listed. If prerequisites are required, additional semesters may be required to complete this degree.
Meet with the Academic Program Advisor and consult DegreeWorks for specific degree requirements.

Advising Notes
ACCOUNTING COURSES
Note: If you are planning to transfer to the University of Utah, you must take BUS 1050: Foundations of Business as part of the required accounting option or as a program elective. Advising notes for UofU, recommend ACCT 1050. Students taking ACCT 1050 will need to take an additional 3 credits of business electives. Advising Notes for UVU, ACCT 1050 is recommended and will transfer in as ACCT 2110 for all business majors except Accounting. Accounting majors are required to take ACCT 2010 and ACCT 2020. Students taking ACCT 1050 will need to take an additional 3 credits of business electives. Under UVU advising notes – correct this sentence: Students who plan to major in Accounting must have a grade of ‘B’ or better in Accounting 2010.
PREPATORY CLASSES
Students who need to take preparatory classes to meet the requirements of first semester courses should plan on extra time to complete the program. SLCC may waive any class in the preparatory skills if students can demonstrate equivalent skills.
It is the student’s responsibility to:
- examine each course description for details of prerequisite classes.
- satisfy those prerequisites before taking the designated class.
For example, a student may need to take CSIS 1010 before taking CSIS 2010, or another math course before taking MATH 1050. Students can determine the appropriate math class for their skill level by searching for Math Placement on the SLCC website.
CHOOSING PROGRAM ELECTIVES
Elective selections should be based on the requirements of the intended transfer institution. Contact your Gail Miller School of Business academic advisor for more information.
CHOOSING GENERAL EDUCATION COURSES
Recommended: Choose Gen Ed electives with the following prefixes where available–BUS, MGT, MKTG, FIN, ACCT, CSIS, HOSP.
Note, however, if you take a course for a Gen Ed elective, you may NOT count it also as a degree requirement/elective or vice versa.
See also the recommended Gen Ed electives for the Business Program.
LANGUAGE (LN)
For students without sufficient language proficiency, they must plan to take Language 1010 before taking Language (LN). See language advisor.
Students who want to earn a BA degree after transfer from SLCC are advised to take a language that the chosen school offers as upper-division courses. Not all colleges and universities offer all languages; consult with the transfer school’s language department.
