Plan of Study 2022-2023

The following is a plan of requirements to complete this Associate of Pre-Engineering degree in 3 years. Each student’s experience will vary slightly, as this plan does not include transfer work, Advanced Placement (AP), or other institutions’ concurrent enrollment credits. Math and English placement will be based on the student’s appropriate placement scores. If developmental courses are required, they should be taken in the student’s first semester.

NOTE: This plan assumes the student is prepared to take the courses listed. If prerequisites are required, additional semesters may be required to complete this degree.

Advising Notes

  *MATH 1050 and MATH 1060 are not part of the General Engineering APE degree but are required prerequisites for students who do not place into MATH 1210 (Calculus I). 
**Select either CHEM 1220 or PHYS 2220.  Students planning an emphasis in Structural Engineering are encouraged to complete the   second physics course.
Students planning for Environmental Engineering are encouraged to complete the second Chemistry course. Students planning to transfer to Utah State University should consult with an advisor to select alternative courses consistent with USU’s program.  Students planning on an emphasis different than structural civil engineering should consult with advisors from their transfer institution to determine alternate courses.
***Students should take either PHYS 2215 or PHYS 2225 or CHEM 1225 with the corresponding lecture course
****Civil Engineering at the University of Utah requires a technical science elective (1000-5000 level) in ATMOS, GEOL or BIOL.  This can be fulfilled by careful selection of the SLCC Life Science distribution course requirement.  BIOL 1610 College Biology I (LS) and BIOL 1615 College Biology I Lab are recommended.
