Interior Design AAS: Full-time

Plan of Study 2022-2023

The following is a plan of requirements to complete this Associate of Applied Science degree in 2 years. Each student’s experience will vary slightly, as this plan does not include transfer work, Advanced Placement (AP), or other institutions’ concurrent enrollment credits. Math and English placement will be based on the student’s appropriate placement scores. If developmental courses are required, they should be taken in the student’s first semester.

NOTE: This plan assumes the student is prepared to take the courses listed. If prerequisites are required, additional semesters may be required to complete this degree.

Advising Notes

The graduation map reflect the recommended order courses should be taken. However, each student’s circumstances are different, so it is highly recommended talking to the Interior Design Academic Advisor or the Interior Design Department before registration each semester.

It is the student’s responsibility to examine each course description for details of prerequisite classes. Those prerequisites must be satisfied before courses may be taken.

Recommended Electives
The Interior Design AAS degree offers a variety of electives. The elective offerings are designed for students to select additional information on areas of interest and specific career goals. Students are required to take a minimum of 69 credits comprised of: 47 required program credits, 14 General Education credits, and 8 elective credits.

The following are suggested electives that students may want to consider to meet their specific goals. Students are encouraged to consult with the program manager, faculty, or program advisor with questions.

National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Exam
The NCIDQ Exam is the professional exam for Interior Designers. Passing it is required to be a professional member of Interior Design organizations like, ASID and IIDA, and for licensing in most states. In Utah, we have the Commercial Interior Design License. To qualify to sit for the exam, students in 2-year degrees need to have a minimum of 60 Interior Design specific credits. To meet this goal, students would need to take an additional 5 credits in the elective offerings for a total of 13 elective credits (5 courses). The following would be most beneficial:

  • INTD 2900 Independent Study
